Julie Andrews & “The Sound of Music” co-star Christopher Plummer remained a “great friend” until his death

Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer were famous co-stars in the 1965 classic musical The Sound of Music and were close friends for over 50 years until Plummer died in February 2021 at the age of 91.
In a new interview with Vanity FairAndrews looks back on the long friendships they have shared over the years.
“We were great friends until he died quite recently,” Andrews said. “We saw each other a lot, we knew each other, he remained a friend, and it was a lot of fun.”

Andrews also acknowledges Plummer’s achievements in getting a movie based on Broadway musicals on track, and acknowledges that it could have been “a considerable saccharin if not careful.”
According to Andrews, a conversation took place before the shoot to work on “the best way to get rid of the really sweet parts of the movie.”
Andrews added: “I really thank Chris Plummer for giving the film glue. He was a solid, tough, kid’s father and an adversary I had to work with. Was a very nice actor. “
