Jays RH Gaussman struck by the liner on foot leaves the match

Toronto (AP) — Blue Jays right-handed Kevin Gausman left Game 1 on Saturday’s double header against Tampa Bay after being hit with his right foot by a line drive from Rays shortstop Wander Franco.

Franco’s liner, who had an exit speed of 100 mph, attacked Gausman and bounced off catcher Gabriel Moreno.

After being beaten, Gausman stumbled forward and fell face down in front of the mound. He got a lot of attention from the trainer before he got up and slowly left the field.

Gausman signed a five-year, $ 110 million contract with the Blue Jays during the final off-season. He entered Saturday’s start 6-6 with 2.93 ERA.

Gausman allowed four hits in two scoreless innings before departure. He walked one and hit three.

Right-handed Casey Lawrence, who joined the Blue Jays as the 27th man on Saturday’s doubleheader, replaced Goesman third.
