Jason Bellair appointed as new Windsor police chief

The Windsor Police have a familiar face as the new Chief of Police.

Jason Bellair, who has served as interim police chief for the past eight months, was officially named Tuesday as the police’s new top officer.

Chief Bellair is a 27-year veteran of the Windsor Police Department and has held a variety of roles during his career.

“I am honored to be the next Chief of Windsor Police,” Bellair said. “I am deeply invested in Windsor and Amherstburg and the people who live in these communities.
I am committed to the integrity and success of Windsor Police. “

Prior to assuming the post of Deputy Director following the retirement of former Director Pam Mizuno, Bellair served two years as Deputy Director of the Operations Police, where he oversaw operational strategy. Prior to that, he served as a patrol response inspector and was the first point of contact for the Windsor and Amherstburg groups.

Mayor Drew Dilkens, who is also chairman of the Windsor Police Service Commission, said: “Mayor Bellair has proven to be an experienced and innovative leader with a commitment to the cities of Windsor and Amherstburg. , applying a modern vision of progressive, community-centered policing.”

Mr. Dilkens also said Mr. Bellair was a good communicator and a reliable leader.

Bellaire has a BA in English Literature from the University of Windsor and has completed various police professional courses. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Essex County Youth Conversion and is a member of the Commission on Crime Information Response to Organized Crime.

The appointment of Chief Belaire will be for a five-year term starting December 1, 2022.
