Jada Pinkett Smith is open about the common thread she found in her relationship. “And I’ll tell you why. The environment. It was my addiction. She found her safety through my mother,” explains Banfield-Norris. “But when Mom died, that was when my addiction really started.”

“She died when I was still in junior high school. I’m 11 or 12 years old,” says Pinkett Smith.

It was a crucial moment for the whole family and influenced Pinkett Smith’s future reassurance.

“It’s a really important time to feel safe and secure,” continues Banfield-Norris. “And that’s when your femininity begins,” Smith says.

“And that’s when she loses her safety,” Vanfield-Norris adds. “My mother was her backbone.”

After her grandmother died, Pinkett Smith said she no longer felt safe and ended up looking for it in the world.

“Her house was safe,” says Pinkett Smith. “So, when she was gone, her safety was gone, so I went into the world and made my own safety, and it was crazy.”
