Despite the uncertain economic outlook, the Canadian labor market remains hot, with the unemployment rate at 4.9%, which is essentially full employment. There are over 100,000 job vacancies nationwide. Some sectors, such as health care and social services, are experiencing vacancies and demand for workers has never been higher.

Patrick McKenzie, CEO of the British Columbia Migrant Employment Council, recently attended the Transatlantic Immigration Council in Berlin. The Council is a high-level body of elected public service leaders that considers important policy issues and seeks to influence immigration policy-making processes across Europe, North America and Australia.
With Canada on track to welcome record numbers of immigrants in 2022, Mackenzie said: How can we make British Columbia the number one destination for the talent we need?”
Mackenzie participated in a conversation about filling staff shortages with quality talent from around the world.
