“I will exchange the first 10 Rounders for him”: Reconen gives Avalanche a big goal

There’s a reason Joe Sakic was fine pushing the deal with Arturi Rekonen and giving up a ton to buy him.

The versatile Finnish Winger was a valuable member of the Colorado Avalanche in the Stanley Cup and scored big goals, including the winner to win the championship for the first time in 21 years.

This is not a new territory for Reconen, who has a reputation as a playoff performer. In 2016, Reconen scored twice to help Florunda HC win the 2016 SHL title. It was his overtime goal against the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 that sent the Montreal Canadiens to the Stanley Cup Finals last season.

In the case of Colorado, Reconen took it one step further. After Avalanche helped complete the Edmonton Oilers’ four-game sweep with the overtime winner, Reconen came to break the deadlock with a cup clinch goal.

Needless to say, giving up on the defense prospects Justin Barron and Reconen’s 2023 Second Round Draft Topic was well worth it to Colorado. The 26-year-old scored a plus 2 in 20 playoff games with 8 goals and 6 assists.

“That’s why we exchange for such a man by the deadline,” said Nathan McKinnon of the Avalanche Center after Reconen decided to win the match against Edmonton. “I’m now exchanging 10 first rounders for him. Anyway, when they join the league, we’ll all be gone.”
