Sir Paul McCartney looks back on his long relationship with the Queen in the face of the monarch’s historic Platinum Jubilee.

The legendary musician, 79, sat down with CBS’s Gayle King in “The Queen: Gayle King Special” and talked about her memories.

“We thought she was a good looking woman,” McCartney recalls how he and his fellow Beatles saw the young queen after she took the throne.

“Like a baby?” King followed up and urged McCartney to respond with a demonic smile.

“We were a Liverpool preteen boy,” he added. “She looked like a movie star to us.”

McCartney said he and his bandmates never believed they would meet the Queen when they were just starting out. “We’re a working-class boy and she’s a queen, so there’s one or two seas between us,” he told King. “So I didn’t expect us to do that [meet her] Until it became the Beatles and became quite famous. “

Recognizing that the Beatles were Britain’s most sought-after export at the time, the Queen invited the Beatles to Buckingham Palace in 1965 and awarded each band member an MBE.

When asked what kind of protocol briefing he had before meeting the Queen, McCartney recalled: Then talk to you and talk to her girlfriend. “

“Otherwise?” King asked. “Otherwise, shut up,” McCartney replied with a laugh.

Her Majesty the Queen: Gayle King Special will air on CBS on Thursday, June 2nd at 10pm ET.
