She claims she was fired on the “flimsy pretext” of speaking to members of the media and sharing articles about recent promotions on social media.

Ms Doerrie said Castonguay made hurtful and defamatory comments to someone who allegedly said she was “mentally” incapable of doing the job.

The complaint alleges “multiple discrimination as a result of a number of prohibited grounds, in this case the multiple detrimental effects of her sex, physical and mental disability.”

Castonguay issued a statement saying the allegations were “false and inaccurate”.

“I take pride in my work at the Vancouver Canucks. I am a great leader, have high morals, and always respect and put my colleagues first,” she said. “These allegations made by Ms. Doerrie are completely untrue and her claims about what I told her are false and inaccurate. I never received it.

“As this is a legal matter, we will not be commenting further and will respect the process.”

Canucks also denied the allegations.

According to the complaint, Dory was diagnosed with PTSD in 2018 and suffers from panic attacks, anxiety attacks and depression related to heart disease. She spoke openly about her mental and physical disabilities during the course of her interview and was assured that a safe and healthy work environment that accommodated her disability would be provided.

Doery said the sole reason for her dismissal was that she spoke with Postmedia reporter Patrick Johnston about her promotion announcement and shared his article on social media.

Doery’s friend Johnston said Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau texted her a statement regarding her promotion to the Canucks’ coaching staff at the Sept. 19 event.

“It was clear that Mr. Johnston was not soliciting a story or quote from Mr. Doery, but was simply passing on the compliments he received from Mr. Boudreau as if they were friends,” the complaint states.

After Johnston published his comments later in the day, Dory reposted a link to the article on her Instagram account.

The following day, Custongay expressed concern that Dory had spoken to the media and reposted the article.

When Doerrie explained what happened, Castonguay is said to have replied, “You are not important enough to care” and “No one in the media is your friend.”

Doerrie claims that after the incident, Castongay stopped ignoring and acknowledging her presence during a training camp in Whistler.

Doerrie’s employment ended on September 27th.

In a statement, Canucks said: Our organization provided Doerrie with all the resources, support, and opportunities she needed to succeed in her role. During and after Mr. Doerrie’s employment with the organization, we acted in good faith and complied with our contractual obligations.

“This is a legal matter, so we will respond appropriately at the appropriate time.”
