Homemade medical technology available at The Canadian Business Journal, Canada’s first public hospital

Kitchener, Ontario, March 22, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Intellijoint Surgical is very proud to announce the first sale of its flagship product, Intellijoint HIP, to public hospitals in Canada. Founded in 2010, Intellijoint Surgical is based in Kitchener, Ontario, and develops and commercializes surgical planning and navigation solutions for total hip and knee replacement.

Humber River Hospital performs more than 600 hip arthroplasty each year and will soon begin using Intellijoint HIP. The Intellijoint HIP will be available to all orthopedic surgeons performing total hip arthroplasty in Hamburg and will be the first to use this type of technology to enable Canada’s public medical healthcare perspective.

“Intellijoint HIP reduces the need for additional fluoroscopy and diagnostic imaging arms in systems that have already been backlogged by Directive 2, which has stopped all non-essential surgery with COVID-19. This will reduce the need for hip surgery schedules. When you start again, you will be more efficient at Humber River, “says Jhanvi Solanki, Program Director of Surgical Services at Humber River Hospital.

Dr. Sebastian Rodriguez-Elizalde, a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Hamburg River Hospital, said: This open platform technology is easy to use, takes minutes to set up, and allows surgeons to stop using intraoperative X-rays. “

Providing Canadian medical technology to Canadians is a major achievement for the public health sector, given the funding challenges. This success story is due to the Hamburg River Hospital Foundation and its generous donors. The Intellijoint HIP has been licensed by Health Canada since 2015 and has already been used in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan with great success.

More and more surgeons are adopting technology in the operating room for the benefit of their patients. The Intellijoint HIP (IJH) is a new navigation device that integrates with the surgeon’s existing workflow and incorporates implant options with an affordable royalties or capital purchase model. IJH provides real-time intraoperative measurements for accurate implant alignment and leg length and offset repair for total hip arthroplasty. IJH has proven the results of more than 20,000 surgeries worldwide with no additional surgery time.

Patients at Hamburg River Hospital undergoing total hip arthroplasty have access to this innovative, state-of-the-art technology that enables efficiency and improved results.

Armen Bakirtzian, Co-Founder and CEO of Intellijoint Surgical, said: “This seven-year journey has led our team to our technology for Canadians. We thank the Hamburg River Hospital and the Hamburg River Hospital Foundation for their outstanding patient care efforts.”

Intellijoint Surgical is a proud anchor resident of Medical Innovation Xchange (MIX), a medical technology hub dedicated to supporting the expansion of Canadian MedTech companies.

“This milestone is celebrated by MIX, affiliated MIX companies, and the entire MedTech ecosystem. MIX Executive Director Elliot Fung said this was the first of many adoptions by MIX companies in Ontario’s healthcare system. I hope it’s nothing more than a thing.
