Hockey Canada Board Chair Resigns

The Chairman of the Calgary-Hockey Canada Board of Directors will resign from his position with immediate effect.

Hockey Canada says Michael Brindamore notified its board of directors of his decision on Friday night as the organization deals with intense scrutiny over its handling of sexual assault allegations and its culture of silence.

In a statement, Brind’Amour said it “had listened carefully and intently to the Canadians’ comments” and said “to address the significant challenges facing (hockey) organizations and ()sport, We believe that immediate action is essential.”

Brind’Amour was first elected as Chair in 2018 and his final term is due to end in November this year.

Hockey Canada said its board of directors will meet soon to determine next steps and appoint an interim chairman.

The next Board election will be held at the November 2022 Annual General Meeting.
