Highway 1 brace against snowstorm around Revelstoke
Weather Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the Eastern Columbia area, specifically Highway 1 between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass.
Environment Canada says a powerful “Pacific front system” is responsible for high winds and heavy snow expected near Revelstoke tonight (26 November). Starting late this afternoon, the area could see up to 25 cm of snow through Sunday morning. Wind-mixed snow can endanger driving conditions, prompting Environment Canada to issue warnings.
With storm conditions expected to end on Sunday morning, Environment Canada has warned that people engaged in non-essential travel should consider postponing until after the storm has passed.
The Okanagan Connector is expected to see the strongest snowfall after midnight, with up to 15 cm of snow accumulated in the area.
Westerly winds with gusts of 60 km/h will further exacerbate the snow and can cause visibility problems.
If you have an important trip you can’t postpone, DriveBC can give you the latest road conditions when the storm hits. Environment Canada also warns to be extra cautious in high altitude areas where all hazards can be even greater.
