Noose found at Obama Presidential Center halts construction – National
Construction of the Obama Presidential Center was temporarily halted as of Nov. 10 after a noose was found at a Chicago worksite. The Obama Foundation condemned the incident as “a shameless act of cowardice and hatred.”
Lakeside Alliance, the construction company working on the project, said it was “horrified to see this happening at our site” and reported the incident to police, which are currently investigating.
A noose was found in a construction site stairwell that was not monitored by surveillance cameras, according to police sources who spoke to NBC Chicago.
In a statement to NBC, the Obama Foundation said the incident was “designed to grab attention and divide us.”
“Our priority is to protect the health and safety of our employees,” he added.

A construction company is offering a US$100,000 bounty to anyone with information about the incident. The Lakeside Alliance said it will also conduct another series of anti-bias training for its employees.
In a statement provided to NBC, the company said it “does not tolerate any form of prejudice or hate in the workplace.” “The Lakeside Alliance remains committed to providing a work environment where everyone feels safe to be their best and is treated with dignity and respect.”
The Obama Presidential Center was first unveiled in 2015. It is part of the presidential library system that has been in place since the Hoover administration. Presidential libraries are usually built in former presidents’ hometowns, but Barack Obama chose the south side of Chicago for his library. Because it’s where his political career was born and where he met his wife, Michelle.
According to its website, the center will preserve and display documents and artifacts from the Obama presidency and will include a museum, public plaza, rooftop garden, and branch of the new Chicago Public Library. The center is being built in Chicago’s Jackson Park, and the project will restore the historic Women’s Garden and add a new wetland boardwalk, playground and amphitheater.
The Obamas plan to break ground on the project in September 2021 and open in 2025. The center also serves as the headquarters of the Obama Foundation.
