Apple may display ads in some pre-installed apps on Apple devices, such as Maps, Books, and Podcasts. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the company is internally testing search ads within Maps, which can show recommendations when users search for nearby shops and restaurants. Gurman said Apple could introduce ads to his Podcasts and Books apps as well. It allows publishers to place ads in areas within each app or pay to place their content higher in search results.Apple already uses a similar advertising plan for its App Store. This is so developers can pay to advertise their apps on search pages. Like Maps, Podcasts and Books are currently ad-free. According to The Verge, the move shows Apple looking to expand its advertising business.

SpaceX allows responsible researchers to hack into Starlink, its satellite internet network. The company said it could pay up to $25,000 for finding certain bugs in its service. This comes after a security researcher said he was able to hack into his Starlink using a homemade device. The researchers ran the tests as part of SpaceX’s bug bounty program. In this program, a researcher submits her findings on potential vulnerabilities in Starlink’s network. SpaceX congratulated the research on its findings, adding that it would allow “responsible security researchers to do their own testing” and offer financial rewards if vulnerabilities were discovered and reported.

Seventeen-year-old Robert Sansone develops a motor that transforms the electric vehicle industry. His research could pave the way for sustainable manufacturing of electric vehicles that do not require rare-earth magnets. A few years ago, Sansone learned that mining the rare earth elements used in electric motors can be expensive and environmentally harmful. According to an article in Smithsonian Magazine, Sansone designed a new synchronous reluctance his motor prototype with greater rotational power and efficiency than existing ones. The prototype was created from 3D printed plastic, copper wire and steel his rotor. It was then tested using various instruments, including a laser tachometer, to determine motor power and speed. Sansone won the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the largest international high school STEM competition, for his design, earning a prize of $75,000.
