Hashtag Trends October 20 – Apple Employees Strike. Starlink Airplane Internet; IKEA Tests Unmanned Delivery

Apple store workers in Australia are going on strike, Starlink is bringing faster internet to the skies, and Ikea is testing driverless deliveries.

Welcome to hashtag trending. Thursday, October 20th, this is Tom Li, your host.

Apple store workers in Australia went on strike for an hour to demand better wages and working conditions. The retail and fast food union said workers had quit their jobs on Tuesday, according to insiders. Staff also refused to install screen protectors, repair AirPods or handle deliveries. These strikes occur when workers demand better, affordable wages and work-life balance. The drive to organize is global as workers across the country step up their own efforts for collective action amid skyrocketing inflation and low wages.

Starlink is a new service for aircraft that brings faster internet connectivity to the skies. Starlink Aviation has promised flight speeds of up to 350MB/s starting next year. According to Insider, SpaceX says the service will improve passengers’ gaming, streaming and video calling experiences. Rather than using the same satellite dish as Starlink’s other customers, the plane will be equipped with a special low-profile terminal. On top of the $150,000 initial hardware fee, from $12,500 a month he will cost $25,000.

IKEA and Kodiak Robotics are working together to test unmanned deliveries from their own warehouses. Kodiak Truck, which is working on self-driving technology for long-haul trucking, delivers furniture daily from an IKEA distribution center near Houston to a retail store near Dallas. The truck, with his back-up driver at the wheel, who lifts the loaded trailer, autonomously navigates long stretches of highway during the 300-mile journey. According to Engadget, the furniture brand wants to better understand how autonomous delivery can make long-distance travel safer and improve working conditions for drivers.

Social media profiles and entertainment accounts are becoming increasingly popular in the dark web marketplace. Currently, the majority of darknet markets sell stolen identities. According to Atlas VPN data extracted from the dark web by Whizcase, social media profiles are most available between January and September, with hijacked account prices starting at $6. The hijacker’s most expensive social profile was LinkedIn, selling for around $45 per account. Plus, buying social media engagement is fairly cheap. For just $25, he can buy 1,000 Twitter retweets from a supposedly authentic account.
