RBC will donate $2 million to the MUHC Foundation to support MUHC’s young medical professionals’ wellness in the workplace. The Canadian Business Journal

MONTREAL, Nov. 17, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The demands on healthcare professionals have never been higher. After more than two years of dealing with the pandemic, healthcare workers are burnt out. Combined with the retirement of baby boomers, hospitals across the country are having difficulty recruiting and retaining staff. As a result, new doctors, nurses, physical therapists, etc. are often hired into highly specialized jobs right out of college and do not get the support they need to succeed.

Thanks to RBC Future Launch, RBC’s $2 million donation addresses a critical need to ensure that young medical professionals are ready for long, healthy and fulfilling careers. The Young Professionals Development Program meets the educational and health needs of healthcare professionals during her first five years of career. Participants can access simulation training to build confidence and teamwork with a focus on ensuring mental health.

The Young Professional Development Program offers:

• RBC Young Professional Development Grant Enable young medical professionals to obtain additional certifications.
• RBC BIPOC Young Professional Development scholarship Promote diversity and inclusion in healthcare.
• Simulation training and debriefing Build interprofessional teamwork, peer support, and communication skills.
• Training and resources for stress management Build a more human and employee-centered work environment.

In addition to training over 5,000 new medical professionals each year, MUHC recruits 2,000 new employees each year. Almost 75% are recent graduates and more than 65% he is under 30 years old. Ensuring that these new recruits are prepared to participate in the high-stress environment of an acute care hospital is critical to their success and that of the hospital.

The pressure on healthcare professionals is so great that one mistake can have a negative impact on patients. Simulations provide an opportunity for young professionals to familiarize themselves with the work environment, rehearse stressful scenarios and, most importantly, learn to work as a team. The MUHC Simulation Center (MUHC-i-SIM) allows teams of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other medical professionals to practice together and prepare for real-life emergencies. A post-simulation debriefing provides an opportunity to discuss the pressures and stresses of working in a safe environment.
