“I lost my father to cancer when I was 30. He was 58,” she recalled. “As the years go by, it becomes very abstract. You have the last phone call, the last meal with them, the last hug, the relationship with them is in another area.
“When it first happened, I didn’t think it was possible to have that feeling. It wasn’t in my emotional vocabulary because it was so physical. I felt like I was open. “
The process of condolences has hit Paltrow.
“After the funeral, I lived in London and woke up one night at midnight. I thought I had a heart attack. The only reason I didn’t call the ambulance crew was I didn’t know it was 999 in the UK!
“But I thought I was dying. It was really hard. I don’t know how I got over it. It was really messed up,” Paltrow added. “It’s sad that he isn’t part of my life right now.”

The illness and death of her father led Paltrow on a positive path, but eventually founded her lifestyle brand Goop in 2008.
“I started Goop after he died,” she said. “When he was diagnosed, I started looking at how environmental toxins and food affect our health. That’s how I started this whole journey.”
