Driving conditions remain slippery in Toronto, Southern Ontario after snowfall

Drivers are advised to take their time traveling as they continue to clean up after the first heavy snowfall of the season in Toronto this morning.

About 5 to 10 cm of snow covered the city from Tuesday morning and continued overnight.

The city said on Tuesday that salting operations had begun before the snow fell and crews were ready to begin clearing operations.

Still, drivers can face slippery conditions, and authorities are urging people using the roads to exercise extra caution.

Environment Canada said Wednesday morning that winter travel advisories remain in effect, with an additional 2 cm of snow likely this morning.

“Snow is expected to taper off to scattered light rain later this morning.

This recommendation is valid in the York, Durham, Peel, and Halton regions, and most of Southern Ontario.

The agency said drivers should be prepared for slippery road conditions and reduced visibility.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving for changing road conditions,” the recommendation read. Keep your eyes on the tail lights in front of you and maintain a safe following distance. Please be prepared to.”

Early Wednesday, traffic slowed around several major routes and numerous minor collisions were reported in the city.
