Four University of Idaho students likely killed with ‘knife’, police say – National

Police in Moscow, Idaho, have released new details about the recent murder of four college students whose bodies were found together at a home near the University of Idaho campus on Sunday. Leaving the campus in droves to return home shocked many in the sleepy college town and made them fear for their safety.

In a press release on Tuesday, Moscow police said they believed the four students were killed with “knives and other edged objects”, but added that no weapons had been found so far. not restrain the person.

Police said autopsies on the four deceased students will be performed this week, “hopefully to provide more conclusive information as to the exact cause of death.”

Police reiterated that they believed the four murders were “isolated and targeted attacks” and that they “posed no immediate threat to the community as a whole.”

University of Idaho students and their parents criticize police response to deaths due to lack of available information and fears that violent criminals are still fleeing onto campus doing. Police say they don’t believe there is widespread risk to the community after preliminary investigations, but have not released any evidence to support this.

“Obviously the police can’t say there’s no risk, but what they’re seeing shows there’s no risk that this person is randomly attacking people,” said Rata County Prosecutor Bill Thompson said in an interview with CBS News, Thompson added that the murder could have been carried out by one or more people.

NBC reported that the University of Idaho felt deserted Wednesday, with one student likening the atmosphere on campus to the early days of the COVID-19 lockdown.

The University of Idaho canceled classes on Monday, and university president Scott Green called on professors to be “empathetic, flexible, and collaborative with students.”

A candlelight vigil for the murdered student, originally scheduled for Wednesday, was rescheduled after the holiday, according to an email sent by the dean of student affairs on Tuesday, resulting in so many students leaving.

In a press release, Moscow police said investigators were working to establish a timeline to reconstruct the victim’s activities from the night of November 12 to the early morning of November 13. Two of them may have been caught chatting and grabbing food from food trucks hours before they were killed.

“They are in the process of identifying other people who were in the food truck,” Thompson said.

An unconfirmed video posted on Twitter by local TV reporter John Webb appears to show footage of the two victims. His one man in a black coat, gray hoodie, black pants and black baseball cap seems to be watching two girls ordering food. (Global News is working with an outside video partner to verify footage.)

The bodies of the four students were found around noon on Nov. 13 after police responded to a report of an unconscious person.

The deceased student was identified by police and the university as follows:

• Ethan Chapin, 20, from Conway, Washington
• Xana Kernodle, 20, from Avondale, Arizona. Kernodle was in her junior year majoring in marketing and she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.

• Madison Morgen, 21, from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Morgen was a Senior Major in Marketing and a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.
• Kaylee Goncalves, 21, from Rathdrum, Idaho. Goncalves was in her senior year majoring in general studies and she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority.

According to neighbor Ellie McKnight, who is also a friend of Chapin’s, Goncalves, Mogen, and Kernodle lived together in the house where they were found dead. Chapin and Carnodle have been dating since spring, the report points out.

According to social media photos, the four students seemed to be close friends. On the day of their death, one of his victims, his Goncalves, posted a photo on his Instagram posing with his three other victims. In the photo, Morgen in an “Idaho” sweatshirt sits on Goncalves’ shoulder while Chapin wraps his arm around Carnodol.

In the post’s caption, Goncalves wrote, “Lucky girl surrounded by these (people) every day.” [sic]”

Fox News Digital reported that in September students and staff at the University of Idaho received a community alert about a threatening person with a knife on campus.

The subject of the 12 September e-mail was “threat with a knife” and stated that “Moscow police received reports of a group of students walking between the parking lot of the steam plant (Lot #14) and the student recreation center. I was threatened by someone with a knife on Paradise Pass.”

Fox News said the email was shared by a concerned parent of a University of Idaho student.

“No one was hurt in this incident, but members of the campus community are urged to exercise caution,” the email read.

The suspect, a white male between the ages of 18 and 22, was wearing an all-black outfit and a black baseball cap and was riding a mountain bike.

Fox News asked Moscow police if the incident could be related to the murder of four students, but they declined to comment.

“At the moment, we have no information on that,” said Capt. Anthony Darlinger.
