Strong winds and rain forecast for Southern Ontario GTA on Wednesday

Rain and gusty winds are expected in GTA today.

Toronto and much of southern Ontario are now under a special weather statement from Environment Canada, warning of strong winds continuing Wednesday afternoon through early evening.

“Westerly winds of 70-80 km/h are expected from Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening due to a strong cold front,” Environment Canada said in a statement Wednesday.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the strongest winds are expected near the eastern shores of the Great Lakes, with gusts that can reach 90 kilometers per hour.

Wind warnings are in effect for the Niagara region and around Kingston.

Winds are expected to ease from the west to the east across the state Wednesday night.

Rain is expected to continue until around noon on Wednesday, and a thunderstorm is possible this morning.

As for the temperature, the maximum temperature in the city is 11 degrees Celsius, but it drops to 0 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. There’s a 40% chance of gusty winds in the evening, with an expected low of -2 C, feeling like -10 with a wind chill.

Then Thursday will see a high of 3°C with a 30% chance of heavy rain. Friday is expected to be sunny with a maximum temperature of 70°C.

Over the weekend, highs of 9 degrees are expected on Saturday, with a 60% chance of showers. Sunday is forecast to be partly cloudy with a high of 2 degrees Celsius.
