Gausman pulled out of a Jaze match with an ankle injury

Toronto-Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman was helped off-field in the first Toronto doubleheader match against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Tampa shortstop Wander Franco hit Gausman with a cambacker in the second inning, and the ball bounced off the grass to the pitcher’s ankle.

Gausman tried to get the ball into the field, but instead fell into his stomach on the grass at Rogers Center.

Toronto catcher Gabriel Moreno has completed play and initially threw Diaz, but Gausman is still prone nearby.

The trainer started attending Gausman and helped him off the field after the innings.

Right-handed Casey Lawrence, who was called by Triple A Buffalo as the 27th doubleheader in Toronto, took over the pitching mission in the third inning.
