Funeral for York Policeman killed in Markham clash to be held today

Markham, Ontario. – A funeral is being held Thursday in Markham, Ontario, for a York-area police officer who was killed in an early-morning clash last week.

Const private service. Travis Gillespie takes place at 1:30 p.m. at his Chapel Ridge Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Markham.

Gillespie, 38, was pronounced dead last Wednesday at the scene of an accident involving his white Honda Accord and Porsche Cayenne.

Yorkshire Police Chief Jim Maxween said Gillespie was on his way to work at the time of the accident.

A 23-year-old Markham man has been charged with manslaughter and unsafe maneuver death in connection with the accident.

Gillespie took office as a police constable in April 2020 and is survived by his parents.
