Former NHL defenseman Brian Marchment dies at age 53

Montreal — Former NHL defense Brian Marchment died suddenly in Montreal on Wednesday, his agent said. He was 53 years old.
Longtime agent Rick Karan confirmed the death of Marchment to the Associated Press. Marchment attended the NHL Draft in Montreal as a San Jose Sharks scout.
The cause of death was not immediately known.
Marchment played part of the 17 NHL seasons from 1989 to 2006 in Winnipeg, Chicago, Hartford, Edmonton, Tampa Bay, San Jose, Colorado, Toronto and Calgary. Originally from Ontario, Scarborough has been a scout and other role for sharks and their American Hockey League affiliates since 2007.
