If the request to Régie de l’énergie, Hydro-Québec’s main distribution regulator, is approved, Québec’s cryptocurrency miners may need to find new sources of energy. The request listed at the end of the Power Demand Survey is a “Request to Suspend Allocating Power to the Blockchain Industry”.
Quebec has many digital currency mining operations, and in mid-September, Quebec’s Mohawk Kanawake council was planning to petition Hydro-Québec for power dedicated to bitcoin mining. it was done. “In view of the expected significant increase in electricity demand and the narrowing balance between energy and capacity, Hydro-Québec has submitted a request to the Régie de l’énergie regarding the suspension of the allocation process to the blockchain industry. I did,” the report said.

Under this process, approximately 270 MW would have been dedicated to crypto use in the short term, but allocating that amount of capacity to this use would add pressure to the current balance.
