Life, Style & More – Vernon Morning Star

– Words and photos by Lia Crowe

sitting in the roxy cafe While sipping a turmeric latte next to Vernon’s Careco Clothing, I learned that Amanda has had a diverse career, including animation and graphic design work. She also lived in several Canadian cities (Vancouver, Halifax, Ottawa) before starting her business in Vernon.

Amanda took to Instagram to show us the ethical brands she carries in her store. It’s easy to see how inspired she is to connect with local sustainable and ethical businesses.

“I love sourcing brands, especially when it comes to discovering something new and working directly with manufacturers. There are so many, and it’s exciting to put them in the spotlight.

Amanda recently opened her second shop, ANTLR Menswear, so we ask her about the quality and practices that have led to her success.

“I think to be successful you have to play to your strengths, but you also have to admit your weaknesses. That’s important, but I also recognize that I’m not very good at paperwork, so I have a great bookkeeper who keeps me organized. Surround yourself with people who have the skills.”

When asked what was the best life lesson she learned recently, Amanda said: I used to enjoy graphic design a lot but the grind was coming to me and now I can be creative on my own terms and brand my business. I work twice as hard as I do, but I’m ten times happier. ”

Amanda describes her style as “eco-casual” and “girly in jeans and a sweater,” adding, “Fall and winter are really my jam. Bundle me up with a chunky scarf and I’m ready to go.” increase.

And what does good style mean to Amanda?

“Good style is what makes you feel good. People’s bodies are very different and not all fits and trendy styles suit your body type. I have a long torso, so high-waisted pants. is very comfortable, but if you have a short torso, you’ll want a mid-rise to make you feel better. Please.”
