Extension of overdose advisories in Greater Victoria

Island Health has warned the public that toxic drug addiction is on the rise in Greater Victoria.

The overdose advisory issued on August 16 has been extended for an additional week in the Tokyo metropolitan area. said to be at high risk.

BC announced this month that about 1,100 people have died from toxic drug overdoses in the first half of 2022.

In case of overdose, bystanders should call 911 and administer naloxone.

Island Health advises users to have their medication tested at 1802 Cook Street, Victoria. The Vancouver Island Drug Testing Project site is open daily from 8am to 8pm.

Users are also advised to stagger consumption with a friend rather than using the Lifeguard and Brave apps without mixing the substances.

Island Health’s overdose prevention website (bit.ly/3dO3t4h) provides information about overdose prevention, supervised consumption sites, and drug testing services.
