The Chapel has a long tradition of putting on Christmas productions featuring children and young people, and this year is no different.
New Beginnings, a humorous tale of hope told through drama and music, will perform on December 3 at 6:30 PM and December 4 at 10 AM and 1 PM.
The performers put the audience on board a migrant ship full of dreams, hopes and expectations.
They tell the story of a war bride and an immigrant couple who struggle with the effects of World War II on their lives and leave behind everything they ever knew. Christmas, we are drawn in anticipation of new beginnings in Canada.
Written and directed by Gerty Shipmaker, this year’s story is very close to her heart. Her own parents, who emigrated from Holland in 1951, the day after she got married, and her father, tell us about growing up in an occupied country and her struggles to start over in a new country. I was. She remembers her father often questioning his decision to leave her hometown.
This year’s production featured 23 young people and children, one adult, and a live band, and many people brought the production to life. Contains 12 musical numbers sung by all members of the cast.
“For a church in a small community, staging a production like this is huge,” says Shipmaker. “Every year, I am amazed and extremely proud of what these young people are capable of.”
Anyone can join. The show at the Chapel at 708 Mill Avenue is free.
