Edmonton, Alberta, March 31, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) has succeeded for several years in increasing profits while supporting biodiversity by farmers in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Announced that the Marginal Area Program is expanding throughout Alberta.
“The Marginal Area Program was initially created to help grain producers try to use feed to address salt and other agricultural challenges,” said DUC’s Agricultural Program and Extension Specialist in Alberta. One Janine Paly said.
Today, the Marginal Area Program offers options for farmers who have identified the areas of their farms where they are realizing the negative benefits of their investment. The program pays farmers a financial incentive of $ 125 per acre to plant feed in these areas.
The program not only provides financial incentives, but also a pollen-friendly bonus seed pack containing a mixture of short-lived and long-lived perennials.
“According to research, a healthy landscape hosting a mixed natural region helps to improve biodiversity and a safe space for pollen maters, and an increase in pollen maters is the production of our crops. Means an increase in the number of people, “says Paley, who is actively adopting marginal area programs in her own mixed farming business in central Alberta.
“Including mixed natural regions in the landscape benefits us all from the resulting carbon storage, biodiversity, increased soil retention, and water filtration,” Paly adds.
Paly says this program may be ideal for growers looking to establish a feed that helps reduce herbicide-tolerant weeds and act as a buffer zone to meet product label guidelines. It states that there is.
The new Marginal Area Program is just one way for DUC to partner with Alberta producers to increase land profitability. Growers and eligible program participants who enrolled in the Marginal Area Program prior to August 15, 2022 will participate to win the YETI Prize Pack that DUC will offer to field winners at harvest.
See ag.ducks.ca for more information. Producers interested in enrolling in the program are advised to contact Janine Paly (email@example.com or 1-825-987-0607).
