Man charged with assault after spitting on mother and baby in Vancouver

A 59-year-old man has been charged with assault after allegedly spatting on a baby during a random assault in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighborhood on Friday.

Amidst the many people waiting for a mother and her baby boy at a bus stop near Maine and Broadway around 3 p.m., a stranger approached and forced people to make way, according to Vancouver Police spokesperson Const. I started screaming.Tania Vicintin

As the young mother moved the stroller to make room, the man stopped, deliberately spat on the stroller and hit the 13-month-old, Visintin said in a news release on Saturday.

The mother called the police and described the suspect. Police then located the man and arrested him within minutes.

Visintin said the suspect was known to police and was taken to jail.

Glen Asselin has been charged with assault. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
