Montreal entered the play with a 17-1 tailspin at mans advantage. But on his second power play of the night, it took Cowfield just 31 seconds to lean and convert on a one-timer after Nick was set up on cross-ice on his Suzuki on his pass .

Slafkovsky gave Montreal the lead with just 13 seconds to go and the score remained that way until the final minute of the second when Calgary finally drew.

While the loose pack scramble continued on one side of the Canadiens’ net, Lindholm went unnoticed in front on the other side. When Jonathan Huberdeau ended up corralling the puck, he zipped it across his crease for Lindholm’s tap-in.

In his first game against his former team, Monaghan assisted the first goal from Mark Strom’s misplay.

The goalkeeper jumps out of the net after a loose puck and skids. Monaghan was able to evade the flaming goalie and avoid a collision, but Mark Strom slammed the puck into Slavkowski, who walked around the net minder and fired into the vacant net.

Markstrom has been struggling this season. Coach Darryl Sutter has rewarded goalkeeper Dan Vlader for his strong play in starting three of his four recent games.

Markstrom’s early mistake angered home fans, but he responded with a Bronx heckle when he shot from far on the Bronx’s next save.

Calgary beat Montreal, 12-6, in the opening game, but couldn’t beat Allen. Their best chance was a breakaway from Blake Coleman with two minutes remaining, but Allen made a pad stop.
