Curitiba City in Brazil Considers Accepting Cryptocurrencies to Pay Taxes – Taxes Bitcoin News
The Brazilian city of Curitiba is currently studying the possibility of accepting tax payments in cryptocurrencies. Curitiba City Councilor Noémia Rocha presented the project to his executives to study how the municipality could use third-party payment processors to accept cryptocurrencies for these payments.
Curitiba May Accept Crypto To Pay Taxes
More and more local governments are embracing cryptocurrencies as part of their development and tax collection schemes. This time, Curitiba, the capital of the Brazilian state of Parana, is considering accepting payments in cryptocurrencies for city taxes. The architect of the project is City Councilman Noemia Rocha, who suggested the city should consider how to achieve this with the help of a third-party payment company.
The proposal allows for cryptocurrency acceptance in Brazil and prompts Curitiba, considered the country’s tech hub, to explore the potential of its features. Commenting on this view of the proposed functionality, Rocha said:
Cryptocurrencies have become a hugely popular financial asset in the global economy and have already replaced “currency nationalization” as seen in the many operations conducted through virtual environments.
Sound inspired by Rio de Janeiro
Rocha also clarified that the proposal was inspired by the progress Rio de Janeiro has made in this area, having already announced that it will accept such local tax payments in 2023. The payment system for these taxes will include this new kind of currency.
The bill, which will be voted on in a symbolic fashion next week, will need to be considered for its implementation by the mayor of Curitiba. However, since the bill is presented as a proposal, the executive branch is not obliged to approve the bill.
Other cities are also accepting cryptocurrencies to pay city taxes. One of them is Buenos Aires, which, as part of its push to go digital, aims to include a new blockchain-based identity system to simplify these payments and the procedures each citizen must complete each year.
However, the Argentinean province of Mendoza has been accepting tax payments in cryptocurrency through payment providers since August, and receives the national currency delivered by this payment company. , USDC, USDC, DAI and other stablecoins.
