Cured Licorice, Horchata, Pierogis and Music: Multiculturalism Celebrated at Kelowna Schools
The Okanagan Mission Secondary School’s multicultural exposition was packed with food, fun facts, music and a little dancing.
Okanagan Mission Secondary English Learners shared their culture with students and staff.
Many of the students exhibiting booths are part of the school’s exchange program.
The school atrium was filled with booths and students sharing stories and delicious treats.
The exchange students have enjoyed their time in Canada and some plan to return to college, but they said the great white north has some quirks.
Students from Finland, Germany, and Poland all said that Canadians are very friendly and that they chat a lot with strangers, which is not customary in their home country.
Multiple students said they couldn’t get their favorite foods from their hometowns here in Kelowna. However, they said the fair gave them the opportunity to learn to cook their own meals and share them with other students.
