Advil and Tylenol bottles for kids were already starting to disappear from pharmacy shelves, so supplies at home were being dwindled by families visiting from California for the summer.

Following these alarming signs, the Ontario Pharmacists Association issued a statement in September warning of a shortage of children’s pain relievers in liquid and chewable forms.

Since then, the shortage has only grown more severe, with Health Canada confirming nationwide shortages and last month approving “exceptional imports” of ibuprofen from the United States and acetaminophen from Australia. .

At this rate, Lee said, she would run out of medications that could dramatically bring her fever down and would have to cut back on medications or make his own acetaminophen at home.

“There are so many red flags around us that the healthcare system is collapsing,” Lee said.

“I’m worried about what will happen this winter.”
