Crowds flock to the Summerland Festival of Lights

Crowds hit downtown Summerland on Friday night, November 25, to kick off the festive season with the 35th annual Festival of Lights.

The downtown street festival featured more than just holiday light displays, it also featured plenty of entertainment, food vendors, and workshops for children.

In 2020, all performances were canceled due to the influence of the new coronavirus infection, and in 2021 the scale will be reduced.

This event is sponsored by the Summerland Chamber of Commerce.

Lisa Saunders, event coordinator for the Chamber of Commerce, said organizers hope to see a large turnout for this year’s event.

“People love festivals, and I expect them to come out in droves,” she said, adding that people were ready for festivals following the pandemic restrictions the previous year.

The festival featured entertainment on two downtown stages and beverage tastings by members of Summerland’s Bottleneck Drive wineries and craft beverage makers.

Firefighters were collecting donations for the annual Toys and Toonies for Tots and Teens toy drive.

Since its inception in 1987, the festival has attracted people from both within and outside the region.
