Mamas for Mamas Raises $500,000 for Celebration in Kelowna-Okanagan

Mamas for Mamas, a charity that helps mothers and caregivers in crisis, raised over $500,000 in the Kelowna chapter’s most successful fundraiser to date.

After a three-year hiatus, the gala returned to the Delta Grand Hotel on Saturday for a Black Swan-themed event.

In a press release, Mamas for Mamas said 450 guests attended the gala.

“Gratitude doesn’t do justice to how we feel about those in attendance from Saturday,” said Shannon Christensen, founder of Mamas for Mamas.

“We are in awe of each and every one of them. We are in awe of the new friends we have made and the long-term supporters who always show support. It was just surreal to see a room full of strong, caring people working together to bring about lasting change.

“These donors and guests are changing the future of thousands of families that would otherwise go unnoticed,” she continued. Not only have we funded programs, we have funded a positive future for thousands of people.”

Funds raised at the celebration will support the Mamas At-Risk program, a resource navigation relief program that has served over 16,600 families since 2018.

The program helps at-risk mothers, fathers and families facing homelessness, hunger and poverty-related issues.

“We have served 16,000 moms directly and 50,000 moms indirectly through our Moms at Risk program in 2021 alone. has been cultivated and distributed,” said Christensen.

“We will continue to provide rental subsidies and homeless support when clients are determined to be too risky to support government-funded agencies.”
