Local Roundup: Lancers Remain Undefeated in OUA Men’s Basketball Game

The University of Windsor Lancers men’s basketball team continues to roll in OUA play as the team moves 6-0 in conference play after a 99-74 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday. On the women’s team, he lost 72-53 to Laurentian.

Thomas Kennedy finished with a team-leading 22 points and added nine rebounds for the Lancers as they defeated the Nipissing Lakers 76-74 on Friday. Daniel Cummings scored 18, Nagy Brown-Henderson scored 14, and Giffion Grant scored 12.

Julia Chiarot led the women’s team with 11 points in their 74-55 win over Nipissing on Friday. Vanessa Budmunda added her 11 rebounds.

lancer hockey split

The University of Windsor Lancers women’s hockey team remained hot while the men’s team abruptly ended a nine-game winning streak.

The women’s team completed the Western Mustangs’ home-and-home sweep with a 4-1 victory in London on Saturday after winning 1-0 at home on Friday.

Jayden Cherry, who scored the lone goal on Friday, added two goals and an assist on Saturday to clinch a seventh straight win for the Lancers (6-3-1-0). Keena McKibbin and Jessica Gribbon added singles. Goalkeeper Kristen Swiatosik made 30 saves on Saturday and stopped 55 of 56 shots in two games.

The men’s team lost consecutive games in OUA play after losing 5-3 to the York Lions on Saturday and losing 3-2 to York in extra time on Friday.

On Saturday, York scored three goals in the third period to close out Windsor by one. Steph Dobrich, Robbie Burt and Grant Spence scored for the Lancers (9-2-1).

saints basketball split

It was the weekend’s road split for both the St. Clair Saints men’s and women’s teams at the OCAA basketball game.

The men beat the Sheridan Bruins 80-72 on Sunday after losing 86-82 to the Humberhawks on Saturday. The women’s team beat Sheridan 82-60 on Sunday after he took a 74-70 decision to the Humbers on Saturday.

In the men’s (4-2), Chad Vincent-Simon scored 17 points against the Bruins, Terrence Williams scored 13 points, Jalen Harmon and Shakael Price each scored 10 points.

Jesiah Deerr and Vincent-Simon each scored 15 points against Humber. Harmon and Price each added 12 points, while Williams and Hanani Ujulu each scored 10 points.

The women (2-3) scored 30 points from Sheilyn Murphy in a win over Sheridan. Lauren Overeem scored his 16, Alyssa Lussier his 14, Jane Smith his 13 and he had 11 rebounds.

Lucier scored 40 points against Humber and Murphy finished with 16.

Graniero powers the Viper

Nicolas Graniero added two goals and an assist as the LaSalle Vipers beat the Komoka Kings 6-1 in Saturday’s Western Conference play in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Ethan Martin, Andrew Kotevski, Carson Woodall and Max Frataroli added a single goal for the Vipers (13-7-1-1) while goaltender Ian Michelon made 28 saves against the Kings. (6-16-1-0).

Admiral wins division

Admiral Amherstberg shared two games in the Bill Stobbs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

The Admirals beat the Dresden Kings 4-2 at home on Sunday after losing 4-1 to the Moortown Flags on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Admirals erased a one-goal deficit in the final three goals of the game. Owen Polkas scored two goals against the seventh-placed Kings (2-13-1-0) with Mitchell DeMelo and Braden Armstrong adding singles. Stefan Djordjevic was the lone goal for the sixth-placed Admirals (8-11-0-0) in their loss to the fourth-placed Flags (9-5-0-0) on Saturday.

Canadian drops blade

The Lakeshore Canadiens beat the Blenheim Blaze 3-1 in the Bill Stobs Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League on Saturday.

Brandin Metcalf, Kyle Walker and Eric Bisson scored for the second-placed Canadiens (11-4-0-1), while goalkeeper Romano Liburdi scored against the third-placed Blaze (10-8-0-0). recorded 36 saves.
