City of Kelowna Seeks Temporary Workers for Next Local Elections – Okanagan

With local elections scheduled for this fall, the City of Kelowna is looking for election officials.

The election will take place on October 15th, but there will be pre-voting on October 5th, 8th, 12th, 13th and 14th.

In preparation, the city is considering hiring about 300 workers to help with the voting.

“Polling places are open from 8am to 8pm, but elections staff work from 7am to 9:30pm all day,” the city said.

“Staff are expected to remain at polling locations for the entire duration of their shift, with scheduled breaks during the day.”

The city has said it will hire three positions: elections officer, chief elections officer, and deputy chief elections officer.

A mandatory training session is provided for all jobs. Payouts for training sessions are built into the daily payout rate for each position.

  • Prior election experience is required.
  • This role includes supporting election administrators, registering non-resident property voters, accounting for ballots, monitoring and directing voter lines, and directing how to use voting machines.
  • Shifts are from 7am to 9:30pm
  • The daily wage is $370.

Election Commission

  • Prior election experience is required.
  • This role includes managing polling places, including staff, ensuring the integrity of voting machines and ballots, and preparing ballot summaries.
  • Shifts are from 7am to 9:30pm
  • The daily wage is $475.
