Wandering deer with arrows on euthanized side in Quesnel, warns hunters

It’s hunting season, and the Conservation Service (COS) is calling on hunters to know their ethics after a mule deer with an arrow stuck in its side was euthanized at Quesnel.

Multiple callers reported seeing injured animals roaming the Gassof Road area on Wednesday, November 23rd.

Conservation Officer Justin Millett said with the help of the RCMP, they were able to locate the animals in the Gassof Road and Ryan Road areas.

“I observed an arrow sticking out of the left side of the deer. It looked like some of the deer’s internal organs were starting to be pulled out of the side,” he noted. “Given that this wound could lead to serious infections, it was decided to take the deer to a safe location where they could be euthanized.”

Four point buck mule deer (black-tailed deer) are currently hunted in the Quesnel area.

It’s possible that hunters were trying to legally hunt arrowgutshot deer, but Millett wants the COS to get in touch with them to determine whether the hunt is legal in terms of trespassing. said.

The injured deer was located in a relatively densely populated area.

Attempts to donate meat have failed.

“We were really facing extreme time delays on this one. Seeing animals being euthanized: “We tried to find someone right away, but the clock was ticking. We didn’t know there was a health risk in the future.” I didn’t want to give rotten meat to anyone who could cause it.”

Millett reminds hunters to respect where they are hunting and the property of others, and to make sure they are licensed to hunt in the area.

He wants hunters to respect their game.

“Even if you’re looking at a very large animal, it’s definitely exciting. If you’re going to take a shot, you have to make sure that you have to be ethical and respectful of the animals,” he said. Millett added, “Accidents do happen, but if an accident like this happens, we ask that you contact the Sheriff’s Service.”
