Chicago’s Axiom Brass to play Abbotsford later this month

The Ballet Concert Society’s 2022-23 season kicks off with a performance by Axiom Brass on September 30th at 7:30pm at the Matsuki Centennial Auditorium.

The Chicago-based quintet is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. They have established themselves as his one of America’s leading brass ensembles. They are led by trumpeter Drival Puccini Jr., who was instrumental in forming the group.

The group presents programs of Latin American music titled Lust, Mystery and Despair. A highlight on the program is the work of Astor Piazzolla from Argentina. Piazzolla gained fame for his fusion of classical music and tango, known as Tango his nuevo.

The first half of the program also includes music from Mexico and Brazil. Much of the music was arranged for brass quintet by highly talented members of the ensemble.

Axiom Brass commissioned a three-movement work by composer Lillian Yee titled “The Miracle of the Human Condition”. They chose Abbotsford as the location for the world premiere of the production.

Tickets for the performance are available online at valleyconcertsociety.com and are $32 for adults and $20 for students.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Pre-concert talk in the foyer from 6:50 p.m.
