“Cheer” star Jerry Harris celebrates 12 years with sex crimes involving minors-nationwide

Earlier this year, 22-year-old Harris on the outskirts of Naperville pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography and traveling with the intention of engaging in illegal sexual activity.

Prosecutors sought a 15-year sentence and then 10 years of supervision, while Harris’ lawyers sought 6 and 8 years of supervision.

Harris apologized to the victims before he knew the sentence. He said, “I deeply apologize for all the trauma that my abuse has caused to you. I sincerely hope that your suffering will end.”

“I’m not an evil person,” Harris said. “I’m still learning who I am and what my purpose is.”

Harris is detained in a federal detention facility.

Sarah Klein, a lawyer for the two victims, said Harris’s crime was “firmly established.”

“The ruling he received reflects the seriousness of his crime and the life of the pain that the victim will suffer,” Klein said.

Harris was arrested in September 2020 on suspicion of producing child pornography. Prosecutors alleged that he asked for videos and images from two 14-year-old brothers.

According to the complaint, federal prosecutors admitted that Harris had repeatedly requested pornographic videos and images from minor teens from December 2018 to March 2020.

Then, in December of that year, he was charged with further charges alleging illegal activity in Illinois, Florida, and Texas. According to the indictment, Harris asked minors for sex at a cheerleader tournament and persuaded a teenage boy to send obscene photos and videos.
