Chapman, Bichette Homer, Jay’s Edge A 2-1

Oakland, CA (AP) -Bo Bichette hit a tiebreak solo home run in the eighth inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays passed Oakland Athletics 2-1 on Wednesday, losing five games in a row.

“We needed it,” Bichette said. “When I’m trying to stop the skid, I think it can happen, so I think I fought well today and I’m definitely excited to win.”

Matt Chapman has also been home to his previous team for the second consecutive day. Chapman was traded to Toronto in March after spending his first five seasons in Auckland.

Ramon Laureano hit A’s home run, failing to complete the first sweep of the season.

“We played against the Blue Jays team this year,” said Auckland manager Mark Kotsay. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t win today to win the first sweep and lead the season series to victory, but the game is still in front of me.”

Laureano’s sixth long ball of the year defeated a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chapman replied 13 times at the top of the 7th inning before Bichette hit 13 innings.

“Every time (Bichette) hits a home run, he seems to be moving forward or drawing a match,” said Toronto manager Charlie Montoyo. “Good. Hopefully it will make us aggressive again.”

The Blue Jays starter José Berríos threw six intense innings, allowing one run with four hits in six strikeouts and one walk. Adam Cimber (8-2) won his eighth victory in a row of two perfect frames. Most of them are major league relief players.

“(I) felt pretty good,” Berríos said. “I was able to get out there and compete and give the team a chance to win, and we did that.”

Jordan Romano made his 18th save with 21 chances and scored 9 times 1-2-3 with 2 punchouts.

Oakland starter James Kaprielian hit a home run against one of his best friends, Chapman, after blanking Toronto in six innings, starting the seventh inning.

Caprilian allowed five hits and four walks in one strikeout. He started 24 times in a row with less than 6 frames and set a new record in A history.

Domingo Acevedo (1-2) surrendered his seventh home run this year to suffer his first defeat since April 29th.

Allen flashes leather

A rookie Nick Allen made a stunning defensive pair on second base in the fourth inning. With Bichette leading the frame, Allen chased a pop-up on the shallow right wing, catching a leap to steal a hit. Then, with two runners and two outs, Allen robbed Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and made a spectacular dive stop in a ferocious one-hopper to keep the game scoreless.

Trainers room

Blue Jays: RHP Kevin Gausman, who dropped the cambacker from his right foot on Saturday, is expected to miss the scheduled start on Thursday. Gausman has played catch for three consecutive days and could make his next start this weekend.

Athletics: RHP Frankie Montas received a cortisone injection in his right shoulder after MRI revealed inflammation, but there was no structural damage. He misses the next start and is considered a day. … RHP Dany Jiménez (right shoulder tension) caught out to 90 feet, but needs to be further extended from the next week to 10 days.

Movement of the list

The Blue Jays have alleged a waiver of RHP Matt Peacock from Kansas City Royals and have designated RHP Shaun Anderson as a transfer. Toronto also recalled RHP Casey Lawrence and selected RHP Trent Thornton as the Triple A Buffalo.
