Suspect man shot dead for self-harm in Prince Rupert, British Columbia: RCMP

PRINCE RUPERT, BC – A man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound hours after shooting a woman in a north coast city, the RCMP in Prince Rupert, BC says.

A statement from the Prince Rupert branch said the 44-year-old man was in critical condition after an unnamed woman was attacked at a local shopping mall early Monday morning.

The 52-year-old victim died before being taken to hospital.

Police confirmed the man and woman knew each other and described the shooting as an “isolated incident.”

Prince Rupert Mayor Herb Pond called it “really tragic” and said that everyone in the community of just over 12,000 people could get help.

The RCMP said officers are continuing to investigate and are urging anyone with information about the attack to come forward.
