In a mistake that will surely live long in the memory of fans and cause embarrassing headlines nationally, and perhaps even beyond Canadian borders, the league miscalculated its Division All-Star votes.

In total, there were 21 players who were named to West or East Division teams on Wednesday morning and then had their names removed later in the day.
“Today, the CFL issued a news release announcing this year’s East and West All-Stars, as voted for by coaches, media and fans,” the league said in a statement. “Following investigation revealed that there was an error in the tallying and weighting of the votes and an error in the release.

,war “The CFL offers its sincerest apologies to all concerned, especially to those players who were inadvertently announced as All-Stars or inadvertently de-listed. We have also extended our apologies to the Canadian Football League Players Association. The CFL is solely responsible for this mistake, not the voters or the CFLPA.
“We also want to apologize to our fans for this unacceptable error. A correct list will be published shortly.”
The initial list of players named to the All-Star team received almost immediate backlash from fans, media and players. There was an obvious omission, with Toronto his 16 players named to the Argonauts team. This is unusual even for a historically dominant group, which Argos was not.
The revised All-Star list was largely in line with the privately published votes of many media members, with both the Calgary Stampeders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats leading the division with 11 All-Stars each.
