Police Indict 107 After Ontario-Wide Investigation Of Child Abuse, Exploitation

Ontario police say the hundreds of charges filed in October are a testament to the efforts of investigators and analysts working on the state’s strategy to protect children from online sexual abuse and exploitation. It states that it stands for “snapshot”.

A total of 27 Ontario Police Conducted 255 investigations, executed 168 search warrants and seized 1,032 devices. In a media statement Wednesday, the OPP said officers had filed 428 charges against him against 107 people.

The OPP added that 61 victims were identified and helped in the community, and another 60 children were “protected.” A total of 175 investigations continue from what is called Project Maverick, with more charges likely.

“These numbers are shocking, but they give us hope by demonstrating the willingness of our team to go the extra mile to protect children,” said Cali Dart, chief of the OPP Investigative Support Department. The provincial strategy includes the ministries of Ontario’s Attorney General and Secretary General, as well as Barry, Belleville, Brantford, Chathamkent, Cornwall, Durham, Greater Sudbury, Guelph, Halton, Hamilton, Kingston, London, Niagara, North Bay, Peel, Peterborough, Sarnia, Sault Ste. Murray, Thunder Bay, Timmins, Toronto, Waterloo, Windsor, Woodstock, York.

They were assisted by OPP Digital Forensic Investigators, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canadian Border Services Agency, and in the United States, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security.

Victims sought help from the Toronto-based BOOST Center for Child and Youth Advocacy, the Child Assistance Society, and the Canadian Center for Child Protection.
