Canadian swimmer says she took medicine at the world championships

Canadian swimmer Mary Sophie Harvey says she was taken medicine on the final day of the FINA World Championships and suffered a rib sprain and concussion.
Harvey said in an Instagram post that he had a four- to six-hour time frame that he couldn’t remember what happened and remembers waking up at bedside with a Canadian team manager and doctor.
She also posted a photo of a bruise on her body.
Harvey of Montreal competed in the women’s 200-meter individual medley at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, finishing in 8th place.
She also won a bronze medal in a women’s 4x200m freestyle relay after swimming in qualifying.
Harvey argued whether to write his own post, but said, “These situations happen many times sadly and I can’t keep silent.”
“I’m still scared to think about the unknown that night,” she wrote. “I’m still embarrassed about what happened in a way, and I think it’s always … but I don’t let this event define me.”
22-year-old Harvey participated in Canada at the Tokyo Olympics last year. She will swim at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England this summer.
Swimming Canada did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
