Seattle police said the shooting occurred just before 10 a.m. at Ingraham High School. Officers entered the school, found one of him with a gunshot wound, and provided relief until doctors arrived, police said.

The victim was taken to Harbourview Medical Center, where he later died. Harrell said the suspect was detained inside a subway bus.

The students were released from school after consulting the police. Seattle Public Schools announced that there will be no classes at the school on Wednesday.

Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz said law enforcement officers arrived at the school within four minutes of the initial report, and a team was quickly inside to administer emergency first aid to the victim. Within 10 minutes of the call, Seattle Fire Department paramedics arrived and treated the victim.

Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Brent Jones said the shooting was believed to be a “targeted attack.”

“There is no reason to believe this is part of a larger plan other than a targeted attack,” Jones said.

Jones said a police investigation would reveal more details about what happened in the future, but for now his priority is “to make sure the students and families are safe.”
