Windsor man wanted by police as suspect in shooting

A Windsor man is wanted by police on first-degree murder charges in connection with the shooting Monday night.

Malique Calloo, 26, was identified as the prime suspect by investigators on Tuesday morning.

“An unrecovered firearm was used in this murder,” said the sergeant. Joe Fadool of the Windsor Police Major Crimes Unit.

“With that information, Mr. Carew should be considered armed and dangerous.”

Calloo is described as a black man about six feet tall. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark puffy jacket, light colored pants and white shoes.

Fadool said police had no information to suggest Karoo had left the Windsor area.

A shooting occurred at the 800th block of Hannah Street East. Windsor Police said a 26-year-old man was found with life-threatening injuries shortly before 6pm Monday and an investigation was ongoing.

At 6:40 pm on Monday, it was revealed that the shooting victim had been injured.

The name of the deceased has not been released. Mr Fadur said his next of kin have been notified.

Windsor Police consider the shooting to be an “isolated incident” and not a public safety threat.

Police cars and crime scene tapes were visible in the 800 block on Hannah Street East (a residential neighborhood near the intersection with Parent Avenue) Monday night.

Evidence markers were installed on the road between Windsor’s ABC Day Nursery at 888 Hannah Street E. and a nearby residence.

On Tuesday morning, police released vehicle surveillance images linked to the shooting.

The suspect’s car was described as a metallic brown four-door Honda Civic.

At 7:20 am on Tuesday, police were called to Block 3600 of Bloomfield Road on the western edge of the city and a vehicle matching the description was found.

A Honda sedan was driven into an alley behind an empty house and set on fire.

Windsor police forensic officers and fire investigators were present at the location Tuesday morning to examine the burned-out remains of the vehicle.

Investigators believe the recovered vehicle is the vehicle involved in the murder.

Windsor Police continue to solicit possible video evidence or eyewitness testimony from the public.

Residents and property owners in the 800 block of Hannah Street East or Parent Avenue between Hannah Street East and Tecumseh Road East will be asked to check for CCTV or dashcam recordings, especially beginning around 4:30 p.m. on Mondays. You will be prompted to

Likewise, residents and property owners of Block 3600 of Bloomfield Road are asked to come forward about potential evidence related to the burning Honda Civic.

“In this matter, even a little bit of information could be useful,” says Faddoul.

Carew attended Catholic Central High School and was an outstanding member of the basketball team in 2014 and 2015, according to sports records and social media.

Calloo attended St. Clair College and was a member of the basketball team.
