Parcel of animal eyes sent to Ukrainian embassy

Ukrainian embassies and consulates in six European countries recently received parcels containing animal eyes, Ukrainian officials said on Friday.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Olef Nikolenko wrote on Facebook that the “bloody parcel” had reached the Ukrainian embassies in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia, Italy and the consulate in Naples, Italy. Krakow, Poland and Brno, Czech Republic. He said he was “researching the implications of this message.”

Nikolenko said it arrived after a package containing an explosive device sent to the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid caught fire when opened on Wednesday, injuring an employee. This is he one of multiple explosive packages found in Spain this week.

Additionally, the entrance to the official residence of the Ukrainian ambassador to the Vatican was vandalized, and the Kazakhstan embassy was warned of a mine attack, but that has not been confirmed, Nikolenko said.

All Ukrainian embassies and consulates have increased security measures. Citing Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba, Nikolenko said: “There is reason to believe that there is a well-planned campaign of terrorism and intimidation against the Ukrainian embassy and consulates.”
