Calgary invites global tech firm to hire 1,000 tech employees-PlanetWeb.ca

Calgary has decided that yet another multinational company will open an office in Calgary next month.

Mphasis Limited, an IT services company based in Bangalore, India, will set up its Canadian headquarters in Calgary.

Mphasis aims to hire 1,000 people over the next three years.

We bet on ecosystem play. I bet on the fact that I can find a lot of immature talent.

We believe we can create up to 1,000 jobs in the next few years, primarily through local demand.

This collaboration will help Mphasis expand its business in Canada while at the same time [Alberta’s] Position as a global hub for next-generation technologies, including quantum computing.

Mufasis CEO

Mphasis primarily provides IT solutions and services to banks and insurance companies.

Employments will be created over the next three years and will include development, automation, machine learning, data science and artificial intelligence.

This is good news for the city of Calgary, and it is struggling to focus on developing tech companies.

Another company, Infosys, announced six months ago that it would also employ 500 employees in Calgary.

Both companies cite relatively low cost of living and high quality of life as reasons for moving there.

The only downside is the lack of IT talent available in Calgary. Most of the high-paying IT jobs are done in Toronto, so many IT professionals moved to the east after the oil broke. Calgary didn’t attract new IT talent, even without quality IT-related jobs. So it’s interesting to see where these companies will hire 1,500 IT talent over the next three years.

The University of Calgary is tackling this issue head-on by opening up a new IT program to students. The only way to build a good hub is to make local talent available.

“Higher education institutions are essential to open Calgary as a technical center in North America.

It’s not just about gathering companies here, it’s all about enabling them to grow their business here. Because you have the right people.
