Bruins hires Montgomery as the next head coach, Bruce replaces him with McTabish

Boston Bruins has officially hired Jim Montgomery as the 29th head coach in franchise history.

Montgomery joined Bruins from Bruce and was an assistant coach from 2020 to 2022. He was also the head coach of the Dallas Stars before.

“Boston Bruins introduces Jim Montgomery as Boston Bruins’ next head coach, welcoming Jim, his wife, Emily, and his children, JP, Colin, Ava, and Olivia to the city of Boston. I’m happy, “Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney said in a statement. “Jim has a history of victory, and throughout the course of the interview he told our team his ability to connect with players of all types, while requiring the team to play in structure. I’m looking forward to starting to leave a mark. “

Montgomery replaces Bruce Cassidy. Bruce Cassidy was unexpectedly fired by the Bruins, even though he led the team to the playoffs for all six seasons. Later, Cassidy was hired as a coach for the Vegas Golden Knights.

Bruce head coach Craig Belbe said in a statement, “‘Monty’ is a great member of our staff and we are grateful for his time and effort with the players.” “This is natural and I wish him all the best with Bruins.”

The Bruins, along with the future of Captain Patrice Bergeron, are in the midst of a transformational off-season and are just one of many questions to answer. The Bruins are also entering next season, with many key players recovering from injuries, including Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy.

Following the announcement, Bruce announced that Craig McTabish will join their bench as an assistant coach under Belube.

After playing in the blues, McTabish has coaching and management experience at the Edmonton Oilers. He has also worked as a broadcaster in recent years, including Sportsnet.
