VANCOUVER, British Columbia, November 21, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Klean Industries Inc (“Klean”) announces completion of a detailed feasibility study (“DFS”) to design and build the 10,000 metric system I am happy to announce what we have been working on. An annual waste plastic pyrolysis plant in the Philippines by RGH Systems Inc (“RGH”), a wholly owned subsidiary of REI Global Inc (“REI”). Over the past 12 months, the two companies have been working together to explore potential collaborations to deploy multiple facilities throughout the Philippines and possibly other parts of Southeast Asia. Now that the first round of funding has been completed, both parties are engaged through the critical steps necessary to move the project forward. Current activities include sourcing raw materials, selling offtakes and securing suitable sites with appropriate planning permits.

The project will address several key issues specified under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and create opportunities and benefits for the local economy of the Philippines. As the RGH project enters the final stages of an in-depth analysis of the DFS and the due diligence required to properly plan such a project, both parties are committed to building a circular economy within the Philippines. The parties expect to complete the DFS by the end of December 2022, with project financing by the end of the first quarter of 2023, construction to begin in 2023, and completion of the project by the end of the first quarter of 2024. It is expected to be operational by the end of the day. This project converts polyolefin plastics such as PP, PE, LDPE, HDPE and PS into high quality fuels and reuses them in the local economy. The plant will be fully integrated with Klean’s own KleanLoop™ Blockchain SaaS platform. The platform tracks and traces all incoming raw materials, operations, carbon emission offsets and product sales, providing a level of transparency never before seen in the Philippine recycling industry. The World Economic Forum (WEF) report, The New Plastics Economy: Rethinking the future of plastics, notes that “at least 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans each year. is equivalent to throwing away the contents of the plastic.” Garbage trucks are pouring into the sea every minute. By 2030 it is expected to increase to 2 per minute and by 2050 to 4 per minute if no action is taken. The Philippines ranked third as the world’s largest producer of plastic waste, followed by Indonesia in second place and China in first place. The Philippines is estimated to have produced a total of 2.7 million tons of plastic waste in 2016. This is because most of the population of the Philippines lives in coastal areas, near waterways and rivers. In addition, coastal cities with urban drainage and paved surfaces and located in high precipitation areas such as Metro Manila have been observed to discharge higher amounts of land-based plastic waste into the ocean.

In 2021, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) of the Philippines has calculated that the Pasig River is the largest source of marine plastic waste, located in Metro Manila, a megacity located along Manila Bay. This accounts for his 6.43% of the total plastic waste found in the ocean. Also, the Philippines is a tropical country and receives a large amount of precipitation each year. Precipitation-induced runoff, stormwater, and sewage carry land-based plastic debris into rivers, which carry plastic into oceans and oceans. Seven of the top 10 most plastic-polluted rivers in the world are in the Philippines.A total of 4,820 rivers in the Philippines discharge about 356,371 million tons of plastic waste into the ocean each year.
